PRESS RELEASE

Boutique Los Angeles Employment Law Firm Miller | Williams LLP Opens Its Doors in Downtown, Offering Small and Mid-Sized Businesses Competent, Cost-Effective Representation

Los Angeles, California, July 1, 2010 – Miller | Williams LLP, a boutique Los Angeles, California law firm handling state and federal employment-related litigation and counseling matters, opens its doors this month in downtown’s Union Bank Plaza, located at 445 S. Figueroa Street,  Suite 2700.

Due to the current economic downturn, the ever-rising costs of legal services, and the ever-increasing complexity of state and federal employment laws, now more than ever, small and mid-sized businesses need competent, yet affordable, legal representation in the area of employment law.  Founding partners Kirsten E. Miller and Meredith Davis Williams joined forces to start Miller | Williams LLP to fill that need.

The firm offers California employers of all sizes, as well as select employees, experienced and cost-effective legal services in a wide range of employment-related litigation matters, including matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour issues.

In addition to its litigation practice, Miller | Williams LLP also seeks to help California employers conserve resources by avoiding litigation and limiting exposure to potential liability.  Through its advice and counseling practice, Miller | Williams LLP assists employers with compliance issues, employee handbooks, workplace policies, overtime exemption classifications, disability accommodations, medical leave issues, workplace investigations, hiring, employee discipline, terminations, privacy issues, and much more.

“As a former small business owner, I understand the increasing need for businesses to hire employment counsel to help them protect against liability,” said Ms. Miller, who owned and operated a successful security company in California’s High Desert before attending law school.  “I also understand that many small businesses cannot afford to pay the large law firms’ billing rates, and I hate to see good companies forgo this important business necessity because of a lack of affordable options and a lack attention to their needs.”

About the Partners

Ms. Miller and Ms. Williams met as associates at their former law firm, Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP, a west-side law firm with a prominent labor and employment practice.  After leaving the firm, Ms. Miller practiced in the labor and employment department of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, well-known for its wage and hour class action practice, among other things; and Ms. Williams spent time acting as in-house employment counsel for a small, successful start-up, where she assisted the company in the creation of its Human Resources department, as well as advised the company regarding a variety of day-to-day employment law matters.

PRESS RELASE

Meredith Davis Williams to Blog for Girls in Tech’s Los Angeles Chapter on Issues Involving Law, Technology, and Social Media

Los Angeles, California, June 23, 2010 - Miller | Williams LLP partner Meredith Davis Williams will be blogging for Girls In Tech, a social network enterprise focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of like-minded, professional, intelligent and influential women in technology.  Her blog posts will focus on issues involving the intersection of law, technology, and social media.

"We’re so happy to have Meredith blogging for GIT LA.  Her legal expertise is invaluable, and we look forward to reading what she has to say about this topic," said Laurel Kaufman, managing director of Girls in Tech LA, co-founder of AK Consulting Group, and CEO of Los Angeles Consulting Group.

“Social media sites and blogs are already having a significant impact in the legal arena, particularly in employment litigation,” commented Williams.  “Employers are able to learn much more about the personal lives of applicants, current employees, and former employees through Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and the multitude of social media sites that are out there than they would have in the past.”  Additionally, she adds, “employers’ confidential information can often end up published for the world to see on the blog of an angry employee venting about company business.”

Beyond the employment law context, social media sites and blogs are also having an impact in other areas of litigation.  For example, Williams commented that “these sites have also created a new source of defamation and disparagement lawsuits.”

Williams’ posts can be found regularly on the Girls in Tech blog, along with posts from Girls in Tech’s many other bloggers, at www.girlsintech.net.  Her current blog post can be read by clicking here.
